In Theaters This Weekend: “X-Men: Apocalypse” & “Alice Through The Looking Glass”

X-Men: Apocalypse:  So I am a big fan of all these super hero movies, and I really like the previous two X-Men films “First Class” and “Days Of Future Past”.  When I first saw the trailers for Apocalypse I thought it could be interesting and for the most part it was.  However, with this latest X-Men film, we’re getting a lot of what we’ve seen before.  Cities across the world being destroyed, thinking Magneto is gonna end up being a good guy and then it turns out it was just a temporary thing.  We also got the same surprises from characters making appearances again, even though it served no purpose at all.  Not to mention this was a really long movie that crammed in way too many details.   I think the only real bright side of this movie, for me, was getting to see some new characters come to life for the first time, but even that joy didn’t last too long.  I did find it interesting how this supposedly larger than life character Apocalypse was not very big at all… he had a lot of powers but I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw how short he appeared to be standing next to Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Psylocke (Olivia Munn).  Then again I notice little things like that.  But all in all I really don’t think X-Men: Apocalypse is as good as it could have been and is not one that I can say is a Must See Movie… even though fans will go see it anyway.

Alice Through The Looking Glass:  Here we have Alice returning once again to Wonderland to help save the Mad Hatter from, as they say in the movie, going mad.  Personally I thought this was a very generic story.  There was nothing about this film that had me excited and it came off like they made a movie just to make a movie.  Now except for Sacha Baron Cohen’s character Time, and the back story of the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) there were really no highlights to this one.  I think if I was under the age of 12 I might have liked it more but if you’re looking for something with substance then pass on this one… Definitely Not A Must See Movie… that Alice fans will go see anyway.  Just don’t say I didn’t tell you ahead of time.
