In Theaters This Weekend

THE BOSS:  Melissa McCarthy is back as a wealthy business woman, Michelle Darnell, who gets sent to prison after being caught in an Insider Trading scandal and loses her empire while behind bars.  With the help of co-star Kristen Bell and a great idea she finds a way back to the top.

Personally I liked this movie.  The over the top and over enthusiastic humor works for me.  I think the film started off well and was funny but somewhere in the middle it started to fizzle and pick up again towards the end, but I was pretty well entertained the entire way through.  But to put it in a better perspective, this is only a good movie, not a great one.  I think The Boss was better than 2014’s Tammy but not as good as last year’s Spy.  However, with the lack of comedies out in theaters this weekend it might actually have some legs at the box office.

DEMOLITION:  Jake Gyllenhaal plays Davis Mitchell, a successful investment banker,  who kinda goes off the deep end after losing his wife in a car crash.

Once again Jake has given us another great performance.  With all the emotions that his character goes through during the film I don’t think any other actor could have pulled it off the way he did.  Although the story itself was ok, it definitely could have been a little bit better, but if it weren’t for Jake’s performance this one would probably be one to pass on.  There were also some nice performances from co-stars Chris Cooper, Naomi Watts and Judah Lewis as well .  Now I can’t say this is a must see film but I think if you take the time to check it out you won’t be disappointed either.

HARDCORE HENRY:  One of the most unique films, I think, to come out in a while.  Filmed entirely from the first person point of view… Hardcore Henry… and this is one action packed movie, from beginning to end.  Now for those who have played video games like Call Of Duty, this kind of film is probably nothing new for you to view.  Granted I did like the film, but it’s not probably one I’d see again.  Story wasn’t very compelling and after a while it got kind of old and harder to watch because of the way it was done.   I think the fact that there was a good mixture of humor and bloody action is what it made a better film, for me, than it really is.
