The Thrill Is Gone: B.B. King Dead at 89

Legendary singer-guitarist B.B. King–aka the King of Blues–died Thursday night at home in Las Vegas. He was 89. His attorney Brent Bryson tells The Associated Press that King passed away peacefully in his sleep. The 15-time Grammy winner suffered from type II diabetes and had been in declining health, although he continued to perform well into his eighties.

During a career that spanned nearly 70 years, King recorded more than 50 albums and served as a mentor to guitarists including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Keith Richards. The Mississippi native played a Gibson guitar he affectionately referred to as “Lucille“ and was best known for his signature song “The Thrill Is Gone”…
