Scrabble Adds A Bunch of New “Acceptable Use” Words

For the first time since 2011, the makers of Scrabble have elected to expand the board game’s list of acceptable terms. And, as The Independent puts it, “They make you fear for the English language.“ Some of the more dubious additions (check links for meanings) are: obvs, ridic, lolz, cazh, shizzle, cakehole, lotsa, and twerking. “People use slang in social media posts, tweets, blogs, comments, text messages—you name it—so there’s a host of evidence for informal varieties of English that simply didn’t exist before,” explained Scrabble’s head of language content…
