Cafeteria Worker Helps Needy Kids, Gets Fired

Della Curry is the former kitchen manager at Dakota Valley Elementary School in Aurora, Colorado. She no longer works there because she was fired on Friday. Her offense: giving free lunch to needy students who didn’t have any money to pay for their food. District policy dictates that such students who don’t qualify for subsidized meals receive a slice of cheese on a hamburger bun, as well as a small milk. Curry doesn’t think that’s enough. “I had a first-grader in front of me, crying, because she doesn’t have enough money for lunch.
