Your Quick & Simple Review: “The Sisters Brothers”

In the mountains of Oregon, in 1851, Charlie and Eli Sisters (Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly) are brothers and assassins, making a deadly journey through the Northwest.  On the trail of a chemist (Riz Ahmed) who has a secret formula for prospecting gold that’s wanted by their boss.  Along the way, the brothers rediscover what remains of their humanity and go from the hunters to the hunted.

So going into this one, I didn’t know too much about it.  Other than what I saw on the trailer.  Had a hard time trying to figure out if it was gonna be a comedy or drama.  Turns out, it was both… but more on the dramatic side with a good amount of comedic relief.  As much as I like me a good western, this one was a little mellow for my taste, but the story itself was good.

I liked how these two brothers, that are total opposites, stand by each other no matter what.  Even though they’re traveling down the same path, each one seems to want something different out of life, and the loyalty they have towards each other is tested but stays true.

The other part of the story that I would have liked to seen or found out a lil more about was Jake Gyllenhaal’s character, John Morris.  He was the point person the brothers were supposed to be meeting up with, but something changes for him that I either missed it or they didn’t go into it enough, for me.

All in all, The Sisters Brothers, is a very good movie filled with nice action, warm and fuzzy moments and even a couple moments that will probably gross you out… at least it did for me.
