Your Quick & Simple Review: “Once Upon A Time In… Hollywood”

Since I first heard about Quinton Tarantino’s 9th film a couple of years ago, I was excited to see how it would turn out.  This being Quinton’s tribute to old Hollywood and one that takes on the subject of one of it’s most horrific moments.  Seeing what he would do with it was very intriguing.

Taking place in 1969, when Hollywood’s running wild with hippies everywhere, our two main, fictional, characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), a TV star looking to reignite his slowly failing career and Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), Dalton’s best friend and stunt man, with nothing going for him but being personal assistant to Rick, these two guys take us on two different and enjoyable journey’s.  As for the performances of Leo and Brad, these two are great in almost any film, but the commitment to their characters in this film seems like it goes beyond the norm.  Maybe since they’ve both been in Tarantino film’s before, they know what’s expected of them and brought their A+ game.

As for the story, I liked how he (Tarantino) had the two story lines going and had you waiting for them to cross paths.  And watching the way he created this huge backstory of Rick Dalton wondering how it was gonna fit in at the end.  And it was that ending where we finally get all the things we love about his films.  I definitely wasn’t shy when I let out an “Oh Shhhht” during the films final minutes… made the 2 hours to get to that point worth it.

So from all the nostalgic commercials, back in the day locations, performances by the all-star cast… Quinton Tarantino’s 9th film, Once Upon A Time in… Hollywood, is one I will be watching more than a few times.
