A GHOST STORY: Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost (Casey Affleck) returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife (Rooney Mara), only to find that in his spectral state, he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away.
Let’s start by saying that this is not your typical paranormal film. At first look you might think this to be a lil comical just because there’s someone in a white sheet walking around like a ghost emoji. But comical it’s not.
I actually found this one to be very fascinating. Writer/Director David Lowery’s vision of life after death, and the feelings that carry on is both moving and sad while at the same time wonderful and loving. It kinda reminds me of those many love songs that talk about loving someone from the beginning of time until their dying day and beyond. Which is pretty much what we got.
At times there’s not too much dialogue in this one so you really need to be able to get emotionally involved by reading the body language and understanding what going on around the characters. So if you can then I think you’ll be pleasantly pleased. Or at least you should be able to appreciate the originality of it all.
