“The Chaperone” Starring Phoenix Native Haley Lu Richarson

Louise Brooks (Haley Lu Richardson) is a rebellious 15-year-old schoolgirl from Wichita, KS and has big dreams of fame and fortune. She soon gets her chance when she travels to New York to study with a leading dance troupe for the summer — accompanied by a watchful chaperone, Norma (Elizabeth McGovern), who also has dreams to realize in the city.

This was a nice role for Haley Lu.  She’s been landing some good roles in good movies.  Knowing a little bit about her, I thought it was interesting how some of her character’s life mirrors her own.  Both are dancers, and both left their hometown to purse their dreams.  I’m thinking this was the perfect role for her.

The story was simple and had a nice sophisticated feel to it.  A couple of times it started to really slow down, but when we learned of the secrets both Norma and Louise were keeping, things picked up again.  Making this a very enjoyable film.

It is playing exclusively this weekend at the Harkins Shea 14 in Scottsdale.
