In Movie Theaters This Weekend…

LIFE

The members of the International Space Station find what is probably the most important discovery in human history… Evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. While conducting their research, things take an unexpected turn and the life form, also known as “Calvin”, proves to be more intelligent than anyone ever expected.  Now, Calvin is threatening the lives of the entire crew and if they don’t destroy it before they return to Earth it could threaten the lives of all mankind.

There was a nice build up of intensity with this film.  The crew, early on, is happy with what they’ve found but slowly start to realize something just aint right and that has them being cautious.  However, when things start to go bad that’s when we get to the good stuff… it actually had me sayin “Ewwww” on more than one occasion.

There’s some really good action in this film, CGI (Computer Generated Image) was done well… And the cast did a nice job too.  Unfortunately this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a story like this, so it lost the originality points for me.  Because of that, even though I like it, this is really NOT A MUST SEE MOVIE this weekend.  But it could be something to see if no other movie takes all your money first.

PERSONAL SHOPPER

American in Paris Maureen (Kristen Stewart) works as a personal shopper for a celebrity client. By night, she attempts to contact the spirits of the dead, hoping to make contact with her recently deceased twin brother.

So the second I saw this trailer I was intrigued.  I thought it would be a pretty cool paranormal type film.  And it did have a couple good ghostly moments in it but not as much as I thought I would get.

The story itself was pretty slow paced but interesting.  I personally could have done without all the reading of text messages that take up a good part of the film.  I think the best thing about this film was Kristen.  Personally, I think this is my favorite performance of her’s since 2009’s Adventureland.  But too bad the performance doesn’t save the rest of it for me… With that said, this is NOT A MUST SEE MOVIE.  But if you’d like to check it out and see what you think, it’s playing exclusively at Harkins Camelview at Fashion Square Mall.
