After a week where there was something for everyone, this week we have what may be the final film in a popular franchise, a history lesson, 50’s Detective drama and an animated flick for the kiddos… So let’s get to the gettin – Eric
Terminator: Dark Fate
The big film out this weekend, is the sixth in the franchise… Terminator: Dark Fate. Bringing back the original two stars… Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger as T-800 “Model 101”, but in this one, also known as Carl. For me this one seemed to be just a retelling of the first two Terminator films from way back in the day. With some new updates, obviously, but nothing really new and exciting. Granted it was still an enjoyable film, just not anything that’s gonna make new fans outta this story.
Harriet
Being a big fan of early American history, I was pretty anxious to see this one. Cynthia Erivo, who stars as Harriet Tubman, has been putting out some really good work recently, so I was looking to see how she would deliver in this role. Fortunately, it was what I had hoped for. Cynthia was strong and did an awesome job getting us to feel for her character. The only real issue I had was that I didn’t get that emotionally involved with the rest of the story itself. Great history lesson, but the unfortunately this is one of those films where the performance couldn’t enhance the rest film. Definitely this is one story that deserved to be told a little better.
Motherless Brooklyn
Didn’t get a chance to check this one out, but it does have a nice cast. Starring Writer/Director Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, with Alec Baldwin and Willem Dafoe.
Artic Dogs
It never hurts to have something to take the kiddos out to. So a new animated flick is always welcome. However, when there isn’t much promotion around the film, I don’t think this is gonna be a classic that you’ll wanna see over and over again… Featuring a great voice cast: Jeremy Renner, Heidi Klum, James Franco, John Cleese, Omar Sy, Michael Madsen, Laurie Holden, Anjelica Huston, and Alec Baldwin.
