At Saturday’s Belmont Stakes in New York, American Pharoah will attempt to become the first thoroughbred in 37 years to win horse racing’s Triple Crown. And how’s this for a good omen: Yesterday, the colt’s owner, Ahmed Zayat, succeeded in getting a gambling-debt lawsuit filed against him by an ex-con dismissed in a New Jersey court. Zayat won on a technicality, as his alleged $2 million line of credit with Howard Rubinsky was first extended in 2005–well outside the Garden State’s six-year statute of limitations for breach-of-contract issues. “The Zayats…are very happy to have this behind them so that all racing and sports fans can focus on the exciting upcoming weekend at Belmont,” said a family spokesman. Ya think?
