Your Quick & Simple Review: 12 Strong

In the wake of Sept. 11, Capt. Mitch Nelson (Chris Hemsworth) leads a U.S. Special Forces team into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission. Once there, the soldiers develop an uneasy partnership with the Northern Alliance to take down the Taliban and its al-Qaida allies. Outgunned and outnumbered, Nelson and his forces face overwhelming odds in a fight against a ruthless enemy that takes no prisoners.

When it comes to Chris Hemsworth in a leading role, outside of Thor and The Avengers, he hasn’t had much success.  Probably because the roles he’s taken aren’t believable.  However, in this one, he seems to have found one that suits him perfectly.  His big and strong stature mixed with his witty charm makes him enjoyable here.   Even better is that he’s surrounded by an pretty awesome cast led by Michael Shannon, who I wish was in it more, and Michael Pena.

The story itself was intriguing and there is some pretty descent action, that get bigger and better as the story goes on, unfortunately though this one just kinda underwhelms.  Maybe if they had cut out some of the more casual moments and focused on making the battle sequences more dramatic I might think differently.  All in all, I did like this one just not enough which is why, for me, this is Not A Must See Movie.
