In Theaters This Weekend: “Going In Style” & “Gifted”

Going In Style:  After losing their pension Alan Arkin, Michael Cain and Morgan Freeman, who are life long friends, decide to take matters into their own hands and rob the bank that is now holding that money.

If you saw the trailer for this one you know it appeared to have the good to be hilarious.  However, that’s actually where the hilarious ends.

Although I liked the movie it just didn’t make me laugh the way I had hoped.  I had a few good chuckles here and there… most of the laughs coming from Alan Arkins character… but when you have 3 great and Academy Award winning actors like these, who can do comedy, this should have been a much better movie.

So, for me, Goin In Style is Not A Must See Movie.  But if you do decide to check it out you won’t hate it, just not rush back to see it again anytime soon.

Gifted:  Chris Evans is the Uncle of a young child prodigy, his niece Mary (Mckenna Grace), whom he becomes the guardian for after his sister, the child’s mother, dies.  Mary is a mathmatical genius and Frank (Chris Evans) is trying to raise her like a normal child until the grandmother shows up after several years and thinks she should be raised how she see is best… And the fight for Mary begins.

I didn’t really know too much about this one before I saw it, so I wasn’t really expecting much.  To my surprise this is one of the best movies I’ve seen this year.

For Mckenna Grace this is a great breakthrough performance.  She sweet and charming character won me over quickly.  Even when she was being bratty too.  What really sold this one for her was the believability.  If you see it you’ll know what I mean.

As for Chris Evans, I think, he had an outstanding performance.  It was nice to see him as something other than a super hero fighting evil villans.  Although we have seen him perform well in some, not very good, romantic comedies here and there, this is the first one I can remember where his great performance actually has a great story to go with it.

With all that said… This is A Must See Movie that is playing exlusively in AZ at the Harkins Camelview @ Fashion Square Mall.
