Your Quick & Simple Review: Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets

VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS: In the far off future Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special ops on an assignment from the Minister of Defense to the space city of Alpha. There is a dark force that threatens the peaceful  City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must try to identify the menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.

Sci-Fi movies are usually tough films for me.  I really have to believe the story they’re telling to become emotionally involved.  Although this one gets your right from the get go with the incredible visuals, it doesn’t take long for that to wear off.  It starts to drag and becomes visually busy, like all the amazing efx are gonna save the movie.  Then we also have the two main characters that aren’t very appealing in their performances.  And the fact that they were trying to sell them as a “couple”, I didn’t buy it.

If they would have spent more time on the story as much as they did on the efx it might have actually been a lot better.  However, I can only say that this is Not A Must See Movie this weekend.
