Supreme Court Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage Nationwide

The United States Supreme Court has decided that same-sex couples have the right to marry in all 50 states. The court’s 5-4 ruling, issued today, means that the 14 states that currently prohibit gay marriage, all of them in the South and Midwest, will have to stop enforcing their bans. “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family,“ Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the majority opinion. “They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law.
