Yvonne Craig, best known for playing Batgirl on the 1960s Batman TV series, died at her home in California on Monday at the age of 78. Craig had been battling breast cancer for two years, according to a statement from her family. “This didn’t dampen her sense of humor or her spirit,“ they said. “She intended to fight and win this battle. In the end, her mind still wanted to fight, but her body had given up.“
Craig originated the role of Batgirl in Batman’s third and final season in 1967. She became an actress after first training to be a dancer, and also appeared on Star Trek and in two Elvis Presley movies…
