After the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center, New York City firefighter Carmelo Mercado quickly rushed to the rubble. In fact, he spent so much time sifting through the wreckage that he came down with a lung condition which ended his firefighting career. Earlier this week, however, he was dealt an amazing karmic hand, as he won a $5 million lottery jackpot through a scratch ticket he purchased in Orange County, New York. “My mind went totally blank,“ he told The New York Post of the moment he realized he’d won. “After 9/11, sometimes you just have to be reckless; you never know”…
