When Susie Bannion (Dakota Johnson) arrives in Berlin to audition for the world-renowned Helena Markos Dance Co, she quickly captures the role of lead dancer. The woman she replaces accuses the company’s female directors of witchcraft. But when psychotherapist, Dr. Jozef Klemperer (Lutz Ebersdorf) and troupe member, Sara (Mia Goth), learn the dark secrets of the studio they soon become part of its nightmare history. For Susie, however, the nightmare become comes something else.
So artsy films have never really been my cup of tea, and movies like Suspiria are the reason why. Granted I know some folks love these type of films but I usually leave the theater wondering… “What Was That???”
Although it had a few moments, like all the blood and guts, skulls exploding and bodies transforming in ways they’re not supposed to, I wish there was some better clarification on some important parts of the story. Or just dialogue I could understand.
As far as performances go, Tilda Swinton is great as always. For Dakota Johnson, I think this was a good, different, role for her. Too bad it just wasn’t in a better film.
