Your Quick & Simple Review: “Searching”

When David Kim’s (John Cho) 16-year-old daughter, Margot (Michelle La) goes missing, he decides to use her laptop to try and find out any information that could lead to her whereabouts.  Even with the help of Detective Rosemary Vick (Debra Messing), the search comes up empty, until an unexpected twist arises.  David must trace his daughter’s digital footprints before she disappears forever.

Talk about an exciting film, that unlike other films shot with the same style (ie. Unfriended), first-time director, Aneesh Chaganty created a much more exciting and fascinating thriller.  Although he planted the biggest easter egg in plain site, and I caught it, he still added enough twists to throw me off the trail.

As far as the cast goes, I have always liked John Cho.  In this film though, in a good way, he got me to become irritated with him quickly.  The overbearing father that kept tabs on his daughter, every second of the day and for every little thing.  But, in the end, it’s that overbearing fathers persistence makes things happen in the search for Margot, and adds to the films suspense.  Ultimately, it’s John that makes Seaching a movie worth watching.
