In the year 2045, people can escape their harsh reality in the virtual world known as the OASIS. They can go anywhere and be anyone. The creator of this virtual world, James Halliday (Mark Rylance) left his immense fortune and control of the Oasis to the winner of a contest designed to find a worthy heir. When Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) wins the first challenge of the reality-bending treasure hunt, he and his friends-known as the High Five-are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS and their world.
When I saw the first trailer for this film, I thought, that looks interesting. However, I some had reservations about it because I wasn’t sure if it would be a movie like, Steven Spielberg’s last science fiction film, The BFG, that really failed to find it’s audience. Fortunately, I was wrong. This, to me is one of his better films in a long while.
This was a fun and exciting adventure, that should be seen in 3D. With a great cast of young actors that kept you excited, just as they were, throughout it all. And even with a 2 hour and 20 minute running time, it didn’t seem like they tried to put too much to fast.
Personally, I really liked all the pop culture references in this one. Not just the video games but with the music and decor as well.
Now, even though this may come across as just a big video game movie, don’t think that this is just for gamers. Because it’s not. I think moviegoers, young and old, male and female, will enjoy this one. That’s why I’m saying that this weekend, Ready Player One is A Must See Movie.
