Your Quick & Simple Review: IT

IT:  When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids (The Losers) are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard), whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

Now having never really seen the original, made for tv movie, I’m not gonna be doing any comparisons between the two.

With that said I know there has been a lot of hype and excitement for this film, and I too was pretty excited to see IT.  But right off the bat I started having minor disappointments.  I didn’t care too much that we got to see him with full on conversation interaction with the kids.  To me that kinda takes away the fear factor of the character.  Personally, I would have preferred IT stayed in the shadows more, with smaller glimpses.

Other than that, I was pretty pleased with the film.  I liked the story, even though I hear the book itself is more brutal.  The cast of kids was fun, even in the face of fear.  Granted that fear factor was really lost for me, there was definitely a creepy vibe to it that made it enjoyable and Bill Skarsgard really did a great job bringing this iconic character back to life.

Now depending on if you’re a long time fan of the film and book or just someone looking for something to go watch this weekend makes this one hard to judge.  If you’re a built in fan I do believe you’ll like IT, making it a Must See Movie, however, if you’re not part of that group then it’s not.   IT delivered a few good moments here and there, but as someone watching it for the first time; I probably would have been ok with seeing IT on Netflix or DVD.
