My Top 10 Favorite Movies of 2017

It was a pretty good year for movies and I actually believe I saw more good ones than I did bad.  But since I tend to watch more than 150 films a year, trying to come up with just my Top 10 favorites, that’s easier said than done.

#10

Professor Marston & The Wonder Women

This wasn’t the most popular film out this year but I really enjoyed the true story of what inspired the creation of one of the most beloved super heroes of all time.

#9

Only The Brave

Another based on the True Story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, based out of Prescott, AZ, who died during the Yarnell Fires in June 2013.  This was a very emotional and powerful film that gave us a small glimpse into the lives of these brave men and the love they had for their job.

#8

Logan

Anybody who knows anything about comics knows that they are pretty violent.  Logan, like Deadpool, finally took the handcuffs off and let the rage out and I loved it.  All while telling a great story that marked the end of the line for its star Hugh Jackman.

#7

Girls Trip

This was probably the funniest movie I saw all year. Excellent cast chemistry with an outrageous breakthrough performance from Tiffany Haddish. I found reasons just to see this one again.

#6

Wonder Woman

The movie that gave the DC Extended Universe hope.  As a fan of DC heros I really enjoyed this origin story.  Great cast and action that proved fans will see a super hero movie with a female lead… especially when she’s one of the greatest hero’s of all time.

#5

Gifted

One of the years most overlooked movies was this gem.  I liked getting to see Chris Evans away from the Captain America character and doing something different.  Not to mention the outstanding performance from Mckenna Grace who plays a child prodigy.  I think if more people knew about this one it would have had bigger box office success.

#4

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

This was my favorite ensemble cast of the year by far. Led by Frances McDormand as the mother looking for justice after the murder of her daughter. Backed by outstanding performances from Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson, this one deserves all the praise it has been receiving this year.

#3

The Disaster Artist

For me James Franco is very hit and miss, but this time this is a very big hit.  The true story of the making of the movie, many believe is the worst film ever made, The Room.  For me, this is Franco’s best performance that you must see to believe.  Especially since it’s actually harder to believe the person he’s playing is real.

#2

I, Tonya

To think, I didn’t even want to see this movie.  However, it ended up being one of the best movies I saw this year.  This true story of former Olympic Figure Skater, Tonya Harding and the “incident” that had Tonya go from one of the most loved to most hated people in the country.  Margot Robbie and Allison Janney are a great one, two punch.

#1

The Big Sick

Although I wanted to see this one, initially I skipped it. But after hearing nothing but good things about it I made sure to take the time to check it out. That was the best decision I made this year. Just to say this was my favorite movie this year is an understatement. To say I’ve seen it more than 10 times because I loved it so much is a better way to put it. Maybe because, in my personal life, I found something relatable to it but everything about this film was perfect.  Outstanding cast that actually made this romantic comedy funny and charming.   I have recommended this one to friends and family since the first time I saw it.
