Monsoon Facts for Phoenix

During the monsoon, or summer thunderstorm season, Arizona experiences more severe weather than many other states. Meteorologists have stated that the monsoon season technically starts June 15th and can last up until September 31st. Here are some technical monsoon facts for Phoenix specifically as reported by the National Weather Service:

  • The average starting date of the monsoon season in Phoenix is July 7.
  • The average ending date of the monsoon season is September 13.

Before the storms make their way to the Valley, schedule routine preventive maintenance at your local Purcell Tire and Service Center.  Our ASE Certified technicians will do the following to ensure you’ll be as safe as possible on the road:

Inspect Your Tires: Is the tread on your tires worn? It may seem like a big expense, but it’s one of the most important items on a vehicle maintenance checklist. Tires that can’t grip the road in inclement weather pose a hazard to everyone. We’ll also check the condition and air pressure of your spare. Purcell has tires starting at $49, rebates, and financing options to help you if a tire replacement is necessary.

Test Your Windshield Wipers: We’ll check your windshield wipers to make sure they work. We’ll inspect them visually and note if they’re worn. If they streak the water instead of wiping it clean, it’s time to replace them. This is true for front and rear wipers. You don’t want to get stuck in a downpour with dry-rotted wipers, and they may have to pull more than double duty during monsoon season.

Check Your Lights: Headlights and brake lights are critical at any time but, particularly, during storms when visibility is low and stopping on a dime is more difficult. Purcell will make sure they’re in working order before the monsoon season arrives.

Check Your Battery and Charging System: Temperature fluctuations are hard on batteries. We’ll check your battery to ensure it’s charged at an optimum level to keep starting your vehicle and running extra systems like the AC during the hot summer months.
